Terms of Service
1. Acceptance
These Terms of Service (the “Terms”) govern access to and use of Reibu (the “Service”). By creating an account or otherwise using the Service, the user agrees to be bound by these Terms and by the Privacy Policy. If the user does not agree, the user must not use the Service.
2. Eligibility
The Service is not directed to children. Accounts may only be created by people who are at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required by applicable local law where that age is higher. Accounts found to belong to users under that minimum age will be removed.
3. Accounts
Authentication is provided by a self-hosted Ory Kratos service. Accounts may be created with an email address and password, with a one-time-code login link, or, where enabled, with a supported third-party identity provider. Optional two-factor authentication (an authenticator app, with one-time backup recovery codes) can be enabled in account settings. The user is responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of credentials, for any activity conducted under the account, and for keeping the email address on file current so that verification and recovery messages can be received.
The user may delete the account at any time from Preferences → Danger zone → Delete account. Deletion is permanent and removes the account's data as described in the Privacy Policy.
4. User content
“User content” means any content submitted to the Service, including chat messages, direct messages, room names, room tags, queue additions, playlist names, custom themes, bot configurations, and avatars. The user retains ownership of user content.
By submitting user content, the user grants the operator of the Service a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free license to host, store, reproduce, transmit, and display that content for the sole purpose of operating, maintaining, and improving the Service, including delivering the content to other users with whom the user has chosen to share it. The license terminates when the user removes the content from the Service, except to the extent the content has been redistributed by other users or retained in routine backups awaiting expiration.
The user represents that the user has the rights necessary to submit user content and that the content does not infringe any third party's rights.
5. Acceptable use
The user agrees not to:
- harass, threaten, stalk, dox, or impersonate other users or third parties;
- post content that is unlawful, infringing, hateful, sexually explicit involving minors, or that incites violence;
- attempt to circumvent moderation actions, kick or ban decisions, slow-mode rate limits, room visibility settings, passcode gates, or any other access control;
- scrape, crawl, or otherwise extract data from the Service at scale, or attempt to bypass rate limits or audio-analysis throttles;
- probe, scan, or test the vulnerability of the Service without written authorization;
- redistribute audio fetched from third-party music providers outside the embedded-player flows the Service provides;
- use the Service to send unsolicited messages or run automation against another account without that account's consent;
- use the Service for any purpose unlawful in the user's jurisdiction.
The operator may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these rules at the operator's sole discretion, with or without prior notice.
6. Third-party content and embeds
Audio and video playback are delivered through embedded third-party players (currently YouTube and SoundCloud). Use of those players is subject to the third party's own terms and to its geographic, age, and copyright restrictions. Some tracks may be unavailable for playback, may stop working without notice, or may behave differently in different regions. The operator of the Service does not host or redistribute the underlying audio files.
7. Moderation and audit
Room owners and the moderators they appoint may remove messages, kick users, ban users, mute users, configure slow-mode, and install bots that automate moderation against rules the room owner defines. Bot and moderator actions are written to an audit log visible to room owners and moderators and may include the target account's id, the action taken, and a timestamp. The operator of the Service may take action on any account at any time for violations of these Terms.
Direct messages and room chat are end-to-end encrypted, so the operator transmits and stores only ciphertext and cannot read message content. Automated content moderation (a bot that reads messages to act on them) therefore requires installing a bot in the room, which makes that room's messages readable to the bot; this is indicated in the room. A room without a bot is not readable by the operator, and content-based moderation is limited accordingly.
A user who has enabled “only friends can see I'm in a room” appears to non-friend owners and moderators under an alias rather than their handle. This does not exempt them from moderation: kick, ban, and mute actions taken against the alias are resolved to the underlying account on the operator's servers and take effect normally. Using anonymized presence to evade a ban or other access control, or to harass other users, remains a violation of these Terms.
8. Service availability
The Service is provided on an “as is” and “as available” basis. The operator does not commit to any specific level of uptime, performance, or feature stability. Features may be added, changed, or removed; planned maintenance may interrupt access; and the Service may be discontinued in whole or in part with reasonable notice where practical.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, whether express, implied, statutory, or otherwise, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, accuracy, and uninterrupted operation. The operator does not warrant that the Service will be free of defects, errors, or security incidents.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, the operator will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, business interruption, or loss of goodwill, arising out of or related to use of the Service, regardless of the theory of liability and even if the operator has been advised of the possibility of such damages. The operator's total aggregate liability arising out of or related to these Terms or the Service is limited to the greater of the amount paid by the user to the operator in the twelve months preceding the claim or one U.S. dollar; the Service is currently provided free of charge.
11. Indemnification
The user agrees to indemnify and hold harmless the operator from any claim, demand, loss, or damages, including reasonable legal fees, arising out of or related to the user's violation of these Terms, the user's misuse of the Service, or the user's infringement of any third party's rights.
12. Termination
The operator may suspend or terminate the user's access to the Service for violation of these Terms, for legal reasons, or to protect the safety or integrity of the Service. The user may stop using the Service at any time and may request account deletion as described in the Privacy Policy. Sections of these Terms that by their nature should survive termination will survive, including ownership provisions, disclaimers, limitations of liability, and indemnification.
13. Changes to these Terms
These Terms may be updated from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Material changes will be surfaced in the application before they take effect; continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Terms.
14. Contact
