Reibu-Tomo

Reibu's visualizers require real spectrogram data to work. However, to get that data legally, we rely on crowdsourcing.

Reibu-Tomo is designed to make recording and uploading that as simple as clicking Start Capture before the song you want to record starts playing. Once it finishes, if uninterrupted, the data is saved for everyone to enjoy, with or without the extension! It can also be customized in ways that make it fit whatever theme you're using.

How it works
  1. Click the Reibu-Tomo icon in your address bar
Chrome only lets extensions tap into a tab's audio if you ask from the icon itself, so this part can't move into the page. After that one click, the on/off toggle lives on the player.
  2. It records the next un-cached song in the background
As soon as Reibu plays a track that doesn't have spectrogram data yet, Reibu-Tomo starts listening. You don't have to click anything per song.
  3. The audio gets turned into a spectrogram on your machine
It comes out as a tiny 24-band spectrogram (plus BPM and key), and the audio itself never leaves your tab.
  4. It uploads to Reibu through your logged-in tab
When the song ends, the spectrogram gets handed to the open Reibu tab and uploaded under your account.
  5. Reibu picks the cleanest version
If others have contributed the same track, Reibu blends the cleanest captures together and drops the misaligned ones. You can see the verdict in the extension's audit log.
  6. Everyone gets the visualizer
Once it's in, that spectrogram is served to every listener of that track from then on, with or without the extension installed.
